the big news of the day - stephen colbert is back.
and he's apparently alwas supported child labor, which is just a fantastic turn on the stephen colbert character. kudos, stephen. this is wh i'm a proud, shirt-wearing member of the colbert nation.
i had my first writing class today, and my god. if the characters in that class don't inspire some first-class blogging, then i've truly failed. these kids are just....well...here are some highlights:
- two seventeen-year-old high school juniors who just seem as terrified as rabbits. one girl has huge braces and one can't say her r's.
- a guy in a world of warcraft shirt who declared his love for "deep philosophical conversations" and "medieval fiction." <---ROLE PLAYING GAMES
- self-proclaimed "anime nerd" girl wearing a hat with pins all over it (i hope to someday read what the pins say). she's won some big literature competition three years in a row. inexplicably, she won with the same story all three years.
- guy whose get-to-know-you speech proclaimed his love for rpg's and being a "proud geek." he then made a reference to the secondary definition of the word geek: "a carnival performer who does wild or disgusting acts," such as, according to rpg guy, was biting off the heads of chickens.
- guy who, hand to god, is just a liiiiittle too autistic or cognitively impaired or something else totally politically correct to be in that particular classroom setting. it's really awkward and i feel that maybe it might even negatively affect the classss but i haven't yet decided?? we'll see what happens.
alls i know is that it's going to be one HELL of a class, but i hope to god this colourful cast of characters speaks up. there's a large contingency of quiet, normalish people (mostly guys). today it was really only me and rpg guy who talked dammit.
the live free or die state's primary is tomorrow! exciting times, my friends.
